The objectives of the UNR ABC-UTC component are to conduct research on earthquake response of precast bridge members and systems, develop design guideline, contribute to ABC education and outreach, and contribute to human resource developments for the next generation of bridge engineers skilled in earthquake-resistant ABC components and systems design.

The research projects consist of studies to develop novel approaches and incorporate innovation in precast bridges suited for ABC fully sponsored by the UNR ABC-UTC component.  Other studies, partially funded by UNR ABC-UTC component, are combined with recent and current seismic studies of ABC connections and elements with the ultimate goal of translating the collective knowledge into practical design guidelines.  The primary funding for this group of projects is provided by other sponsors.

the UNR ABC-UTC component also undertakes education of skilled labor for expansion of ABC in the market place by involving post-doctoral fellows, doctoral students, MS students, and undergraduate students in UNR ABC-UTC component research.  The UNR team develops course modules on earthquake engineering of ABC, sponsors technical sessions at national and international conferences, presents research results at these meetings, and disseminates the most recent findings to relevant TRB and AASHTO committees.
