Objective

The objective of the research component of this IBRD project is to conduct experimental and analytical studies that are specific to the SR-99 bridge piers to determine the seismic performance of the piers and the bridge under different intensities of earthquakes that represent the seismicity of the site where the bridge is to be constructed.  The experimental component of the study is aimed at determining the damage and self-centering characteristics of the column models that represent the SR-99 piers through testing of two large-scale columns.  The goal of the analytical studies is to develop computer models that replicate the measured response of the column models and to conduct parametric nonlinear dynamic analysis of the bridge for different scenario earthquakes.
